From September 2024, students will be able to study a T-Level in Early Years and Education.

The core element of this T Level will allow students to develop their knowledge and understanding in a broad range of topics such as child development, safeguarding and special educational needs, as well as learning about the role of families and support agencies.  It’s a diverse and fascinating subject, and students will be able to delve into the specifics of social interaction, how language is acquired and understanding behaviour. Students will also build their skills in becoming a reflective practitioner with an understanding of the broader context of education.

They’ll then be able to choose a specialism, which is designed to support their interests and ambitions to progress in a specific area. This is where they can get deeper into a chosen subject, developing and practising the skills needed for an occupation.

Students will spend 3 days learning with our fantastic early years staff, who are all experienced; having worked in children’s centres, primary school, early years settings and children’s social care.  The other two days will be spent on placement in an early years setting or school, providing valuable experience as they put what they learn into practice.

This T-Level course is suited to students who have a genuine interest in working with children and young people and want a qualification that offers a licence to practice with children – this means they are fully qualified for employment upon completion. It also provides flexibility to work in a range of job roles in education, health and social care with children and young people across the 0-19 age group. Our extremely successful department has excellent links with many partners, including the NHS, University of Cumbria, Barnardo’s, Children’s Services and a wide range of schools, nurseries and children centres.

There are three main progression routes following the completion of T-Levels:

– Skilled employment within the Education and Childcare sector such as – Early Years Educator or within education roles such as a Learning Mentor
– Higher Level apprenticeships at Level 4 and above
– Higher Education as UCAS points has been awarded to T-Levels

Equivalent to 3 A-levels. Worth up to 168 UCAS points
