Headteacher's Welcome
We are a fiercely ambitious school, dedicated to fostering both outstanding academic achievement and the development of exceptional personal character. Our mission is to provide a rich, dynamic education that prepares our students for success in the most competitive universities and career paths. Inspired by our Cumbrian heritage, we are committed to being ‘Best in County’ – a benchmark for quality and aspiration.
This website is a window into our world, but I hope it conveys the sheer energy and ambition that makes UCC the premier choice for families seeking a forward-thinking, well rounded and high-achieving education.
Our Vision for Excellence
We believe that a supportive community is the foundation upon which excellence is built. At UCC, we cultivate a community where students feel secure, respected, and empowered. This foundation gives them the confidence to take on intellectual challenges, embrace new opportunities, and strive for their personal best.
Furthermore, we believe true education builds more than just academic knowledge; it builds excellence in character. Through our extensive extended curriculum programme and our investment in cultural capital alongside our high expectations, we cultivate the values of resilience, integrity, leadership, and compassion that are essential for a successful and fulfilling life.
Our Values: The Foundation of Excellence
Our educational culture is inclusive, diverse, and authentic. We are relentlessly self-critical in our mission, which is built on three core, unwavering values:
Ambitious
Our ambition is rooted in a commitment to academic excellence for every student. We foster a culture where intellectual curiosity is celebrated and high achievement is the expectation. Our challenging curriculum stretches every student, enabling them to achieve outstanding outcomes and progress to any destination they choose.
Caring
We show we are caring every single day by providing excellence in teaching and support. Our talented and dedicated staff deliver engaging, evidence-informed learning designed to inspire a lifelong passion for their subjects. This is coupled with outstanding pastoral care that ensures every child is known, nurtured, and has the confidence to thrive.
Equal
We believe being equal means offering excellence to all, regardless of their starting point. We reject the idea that potential is limited and are committed to ensuring every student has access to a rich, challenging, and balanced curriculum. Every child is entitled to the same opportunities to achieve personal and academic greatness.
Experience Our Vision in Action
Excellence is the standard we set for ourselves and our students – in the classroom,on the sports field, on the stage, in the arts and of course in everything we do outside of school as well – in character.
The best way to understand our vision is to see it for yourself. I warmly invite you to visit us during a normal school day to experience the vibrant and purposeful atmosphere of Ullswater Community College.
Please contact our office to arrange your visit. We would be delighted to welcome you.
