We are looking for positive, enthusiastic individuals to work as Progress Mentors to help support students to address gaps in their learning as a result of Covid-19.
Our Covid support programme will run for the 2020–21 academic year, i.e. until June 2021. In conjunction with department heads, Progress Mentors will help to develop and implement strategies to contribute towards effective learning, engagement and achievement. Although we are recruiting academic mentors from across the academic spectrum, English, maths and science are particular areas of interest.
The successful candidates will have a genuine belief in the value of education and a determination to ensure that all students are enabled to achieve to their full potential. Your exact role will depend on your individual skill set; however, it will involve the following type of work:
- Subject-specific work with small groups, both in the classroom and through withdrawal sessions
- 1:1 subject specific work with targeted individuals
- Revision sessions
- Small group / individual teaching
- Preparation of accessible materials
- In-class support
You might be a recent graduate, have recently taken your A levels, be a retired teacher or are considering a career change – this role is ideal for those wanting to support young people at a time of unprecedented need. Specifically, you will need:
- at least A-level qualifications; a university degree or Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) would be ideal
- at least grade C (level 4 or above) in GCSE maths and English
- the right to work in the UK for the duration of the academic year
- good interpersonal skills
- the ability to listen and communicate well
- a non-judgemental approach
- the ability to relate to young people and to act as a role model
