At Ullswater Community College, we are highly committed to nurturing the growth of all our colleagues throughout their professional journeys.

Specifically tailored for new teachers, we offer comprehensive support that goes above and beyond the statutory guidelines, ensuring the success of new teachers from the outset.

Collaborating with One Cumbria and Teach First, we implement a structured support and development programme aligned with the Early Career Framework (ECF).

Over their first two years, our new teachers engage in a well-sequenced programme, comprising a blend of training sessions, self-directed study, mentoring, and networking events.

Furthermore, we extend our support beyond the initial phase, providing tailored coaching during the next stage of their careers. Our dedication to staff development underscores our commitment to fostering a thriving and well qualified staff community.

Staff Testimonials

“I have worked in a number of schools and this one has real heart. It puts the students at the centre of what it does and ‘ambitious, caring and equal’ is not just a slogan. There is a relentless focus on staff wellbeing and development and there is a tangible team spirit. I feel supported and cared for.” [Head of Department]

“I really enjoy working at UCC. Whilst it is a big and busy school, it has a real sense of community within in and is a very supportive environment. The level of care and effort invested in helping serve the young minds within it, is outstanding and I find the Senior Leadership Team and staff to be very approachable whenever I have any queries or require support. My favourite part of the job is working with its wonderful students around their wellbeing, and seeing them progress in their levels of confidence and contentment within school. I find it to be a very innovative and ambitious school with a wide range of options to accommodate all strengths and abilities.” [Non Teaching Staff]

“I really enjoy being part of Ullswater Community College, I find that it lives up to its name and really does feel like a community. There is a sense of everyone caring for one another and you can see this when you’re around the school. I work with a lovely team; we challenge each other and cheer each other on as well as have a laugh together. I feel it’s a very supportive place to work as a professional and I’ve received lots of support and opportunities to develop myself since I first arrived here as an ‘RQT’. It is one of those rare places that really lives up to its values.” [Teaching Staff]
