The library is the heart of the school and is the perfect location to study, research, read and relax. The library staff are always delighted to welcome and assist library users and aim to create an information literate, reading community.
The library has an ever-increasing stock that incorporates everything from the latest prize-winning fiction to popular graphic novels to resources that support the curriculum, including e-resources.
A wide selection of magazines and academic journals are purchased every month, to support learning and encourage reading for pleasure at every level.
A selection of board and card games are available to use within the library.
Students and staff are welcome to suggest and request items for stock at any time.
Laptops are available for 6th Form to borrow to use within the Resources Block.
The library is open from 8.30am – 5pm Monday – Thursday, and 8.30am – 4pm on Friday.
Extra-curricular clubs
A range of activities and initiatives are regularly on offer, including our successful extra-curricular clubs:
- Book Club – Wednesday lunchtimes
- Science Book Club – Thursday lunchtimes
- Puzzlers Club – Thursdays after school
Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader is a reading programme run through the library for students in Year 7 and Year 8. Access the UCC Accelerated Reader website here.

Everyone knows how passionate we are at UCC about reading! We have an award-winning library team and we’re always looking at new ways to support students and their love of books!
The LoveReading family – LoveReading, LoveReading4Kids and LoveReading4Schools – exists because reading matters, and books change lives.
We know that reading for pleasure, and improving reading standards, has a huge impact on our children’s wellbeing, academic achievements, and future success.
Buy books, change lives – how it works
- When you buy any book from the LoveReading family, 25% of the cover price will be given to UCC
- Book prices are competitive with at least 10% off the RRP
- After you’ve searched for the books you’d like to buy (after reading reviews and/or checking out our recommended reading lists), at checkout, you’ll be able to search for your school, by adding your school name or postcode, and you allocate that money to us. It will even tell you how much your purchase has donated to us!
- We can then spend our allocated funds on LoveReading4Kids to get more books in our classrooms and library.
