UCC has the largest school catchment area in the entire country, this means our students walk, drive, get driven by parents, get the train, cycle, use a public bus, taxi – or use one of the 30+ dedicated school coaches.
If your child is in Years 7 – 11 and your postcode means you’re eligible for free home to school transport, you can apply through Westmorland & Furness Council here.
Their office can also be contacted on school.transport@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk and/or 0300 303 1591 Option 1.
Westmorland & Furness Council is directly responsible for the contracts that they have with the bus operators, however, the UCC behaviour policy does apply to students travelling to/from school on a school bus.
Bad Weather
If the whole school needs to close due to bad weather i.e. the site is unsafe, or there aren’t enough staff and students that can access school to make it feasible to open – then that decision will be made at approximately 7 – 7.20am and all parents will receive a text message directly from school.
It will also be broadcast here on our website, and on our social media accounts.
If school remains open but some school buses struggle to access Penrith; due to that ever-changing picture we are not always informed. If you have any concerns about your child’s school bus it’s advisable to contact the bus provider directly, as stated on the students travel pass.
If we are informed of a bus being unable to travel, or being delayed, we will always send a text message to those families.
