Dear Parent/Carer
As we emerge from the Covid crisis that has hampered so many things in recent months, I want to reiterate our commitment to the success of all the students at UCC. Part of this success and the progress everyone makes is dependent on attendance at school.
If students are not in school, they are not learning, they are not making the progress they could and they are not accessing all the wonderful opportunities Ullswater has to offer.
To be clear, our expectations are for every student in the school to aim for at least 98% attendance. There is a very strong relationship between high attendance and high attainment (the grades that students receive), equally importantly there is a very strong relationship between the routines and resilience of the students and their ability to succeed in their next steps into further and higher education and/or ultimately employment.
The fundamental skills of being where we need to be, being on time and doing the things we need to do are the cornerstones of a successful future.
Whilst we are completely sympathetic to the many challenges and difficulties everyone faces, we simply will not accept anything below our expectations. We will of course support everyone in working towards this goal and as always if you do want any advice or support then please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Over the coming weeks we will be sharing updates on the new absence reporting system and regularly writing to parents about attendance and next steps. Alongside this we will also be regularly speaking with the students about the importance of attendance.
I know that we can continue to rely on your support as we recover from the crisis and together we can make sure that every student at UCC has the best possible chance to succeed.
