Dear Parent/Carer
I would just like to take this opportunity to make you aware of the arrangements for the end of term and, as we approach the winter months, I would like to remind you of the school’s arrangements for when bad weather conditions affect our school.
On the last day of term (Friday 18 December 2020), the school day will end at 1pm, with buses leaving school at or close to 1.20pm. Students on buses can wait in the Cumberland Yard; those who live in town will go home at 1.00pm. There will be an extended break time prior to period 3 to allow students to have an early lunch.
This year, our Carol Service will be taking place online and will be shared in December.
In the case of bad weather, the decision to close the school is taken by both myself and the Headteacher of QEGS after discussion about the conditions on the day and after taking advice from the bus companies.
Should the school need to close because of bad weather:
- Before college opening time: notification will be given via Radio Cumbria and CFM and those parents who have supplied mobile numbers will receive a text message. The decision will be made and shared as early as practicable.
- During college opening hours: if the bus companies advise us that they need to take students home early because of poor weather, affected parents who have supplied mobile numbers will receive a text message. Depending on the numbers affected, the school will stay open for students who live in Penrith. Parents will be kept informed via text/email and the school website/official social media.
In the event of school closure for any reason, we will ensure the continuation of education through the use of Google Classroom. Work will be set for students by their teachers for the duration of any closure.
2020 has been an unprecedented year. As a school we have done, and will continue to do, everything we can to care for our community and to provide the best possible experience for our students.
