Covid Vaccination 12-15 year olds

By 20 September 2021No Comments

Dear Parent/Carer

As you may be aware, the government has made the decision to offer covid vaccinations to all children aged between 12-15 years old. It is important to note that this is a mandate from the Department of Education and UCC is simply hosting the immunisation team, we do not have any decision making capacity.

If your child falls within that age bracket, you will receive a letter and consent form through the post in the next couple of days, before the vaccinations take place next month.

Important points;

  • Students who do not have written parental consent will not receive the vaccination
  • This programme is for 12-15 year olds only
  • It is one dose of the vaccine/one injection
  • School will remain open – students will be called out of lessons – have the jab – be monitored for 15 minutes – return to lesson
  • At this point this is a one-off event, there will be no catch-up sessions in school for any students who miss it

If you wish your child to take part in this programme please complete and return the consent form to school reception, once you receive it. The final deadline for this is 11am Friday 1 October 2021. A response is only required if you wish to give consent.

There are links in the NHS letter to information leaflets on the vaccine, we have uploaded those to our website as well for ease of access; https://ullswatercc.co.uk/covid-information/

In terms of Covid cases within school, we have listened to parent feedback and ceased sending daily updates. We will continue to update our website with numbers of cases should anyone wish to check (link as above).

Yours faithfully
Mr S Gilby
