Dear Parent/Carer
I wanted to contact you with plenty of notice to tell you about an exciting opportunity coming up for your child. In the week starting Monday 4 March 2024, when your child is in Year 10, all students will have the opportunity to take part in Work Experience Week. Today, in assembly, this was launched with the students and I wanted to provide you with all the information you will need.
You’ll find the booklet linked here, explains what work experience is, why it’s important, and how you can help your child organise their work experience. All students have been provided with a hard copy. Please take some time to read it with them, as it contains important information that will help you and your child prepare. In school, we will be working with students to support them in finding work experience opportunities and contacting employers.
Work experience gives students a chance to learn about different jobs and gain valuable skills. It helps them understand what work is like and can help them decide what they might want to do (or not do) in the future. It’s a great opportunity for personal growth and can make them feel more confident about their future.
During Work Experience Week, your child will spend time in a real workplace, shadowing professionals and observing the workplace. They will also complete work-based tasks, all under appropriate supervision. This experience will help them learn and grow outside the classroom and provide them with essential skills to include in their CV.
To make sure your child finds a work experience placement that suits their interests, please follow the steps in the booklet. The sooner your child starts looking for a placement, the better chance they have of finding one they’re excited about.
We understand that you may have concerns about health and safety and how we work with employers to reduce any potential risks to students. We will work closely with an organisation called Cumbria Work Experience to ensure all necessary precautions are taken to keep our students safe during their work experience.
