Dear Parents/Carers/Students
I’m writing to you as the academic year comes to a close, and to pass on some information about resources for our year 12 students; to keep them busy over the summer break and to help them prepare for the start of year 13 in September.
It has been an absolute delight seeing the year 12 students back in school again from Monday 15 June, if only for the mornings. Their attitude and approach has been first class, and I know their teachers have really enjoyed the sessions too. This time has been invaluable as it looks like the main concession for missed learning given to our students will be a delay to the start of the exam season next year.
We have been busy planning for the start of school again and year 13 students first day back will be Friday 4 September 2020. Obviously, things might change between then and now, but we have learnt a lot from the partial opening over the past 5 weeks, and aim to replicate the attention to detail that meant our students and staff felt safe and confident in the school environment.
I have prepared a summer reading list that covers most subjects, as well as a list of free online courses, free podcasts to listen to and over 400 university text books to explore.
To help students prepare for the new school year I’ve also added a reminder about the high standards and expectations of our senior students through the sixth form dress code and the equipment they will need to organise their school lives.
UCC staff and sixth form students have recently finished voting to elect students to the Sixth Form Leadership Team. I’m pleased to pass on the news that the team now consists of 14 students; Chair Jemma Pears, Deputy Chairs Abigail Garvey, Connor Askins and Ellie Davies and prefects Freya Hardman, Marci Radcliffe, Ellie Howard, Savannah Edwards-Lynch, Hannah Fernie, Jasmine Gilpin, Samantha Harrison, Lily Jennings, Freya Oram and Emma Jackson. My sincere congratulations go out to all these students, they will play a significant role in the running of the school next year and I have every confidence that they will rise to the challenge and thoroughly enjoy the responsibility.
As ever, thank you so much for your support of UCC’s sixth form, pastoral support for students will be important for them as they start again in September, as will their academic progress. Every single lesson, every homework and every study opportunity will count for them like never before as we will be right up against it, time wise, getting the students prepared for their exams next year. Together, we will do it.
