Dear Parent/Carer
In September, we revised our behaviour system and established the UCC 10 Golden Rules, to make clear our expectations for good behaviour, and ensure that our ACE (Ambitious/Caring/Equal) values are upheld at all times. We are now halfway through our school year, and the new system has minimised disruption to lessons, maximised learning, and enabled us to implement additional support for students who have needed it.
The UCC 10 Golden Rules:
- Enter lessons calmly;
- Sit where you are asked to sit;
- Complete the Do It Now task in silence;
- Be silent when the teacher is talking;
- Be engaged in your learning;
- Wear the correct uniform;
- Be punctual to school and lessons;
- No mobile phones;
- Walk calmly on the left in school;
- Be kind and show respect to others.
ACE Points
When students demonstrate good learning behaviour in lessons, extracurricular activities or contribute positively to our school community in other ways, they are awarded ACE Points:
- Ambition – by showing dedication and effort in your studies;
- Caring – for acts of kindness and helpfulness to others;
- Equal – for showing respect, tolerance and inclusivity.
Withdrawal
When students do not follow the Golden Rules, their class teacher sends them to the designated room in school called Withdrawal. This room is staffed by experienced pastoral staff who will settle students calmly, provide them with work to do or a reflection task, and where appropriate offer the opportunity to discuss what has happened in the lesson. Following “a withdrawal”, in most cases students will return to the next lesson. Whilst in withdrawal, there are some simple expectations that all students must follow; to hand in mobile phones, remove outdoor coats and to work quietly.
Further sanctions/support
If students are repeatedly removed from lessons, or are unable to meet the school’s expectations, further support/sanctions will be put in place, for example:
- Behaviour support plan
- Tailored intervention
- Time in the Internal Support Unit (ISU)
- Detention
- Suspension
Students will automatically spend time in the ISU if they are sent to withdrawal more than twice in a day, or if they have accumulated 10 withdrawals. Students in the ISU continue their learning with work provided by their subject teachers.

If we have any ongoing concerns about your child’s behaviour, staff will contact you to discuss this and to look at ways in which we can work together to address any underlying causes or ongoing issues. If you have concerns about your child’s behaviour, please contact your child’s form tutor in the first instance.
