Dear Parents and Carers
As we approach September we would like to provide you with further information regarding the start of the new school year. We are very much looking forward to welcoming students back and have spent the summer making sure that we have all the procedures in place to ensure that we are Covid-secure.
Returning to school
Students in years 7, 11 and 12 will return to school at 8.45am on Thursday 3 September 2020; all other students will return at 8.45am on Friday 4 September 2020. On their first day back, students should go to the form room allocated to them. These form rooms will be different from previous years and will be based in year group blocks (see below). We will send out timetables and information about form rooms before the start of term.
Entering the school
The different year groups will use different entrances to reach their form rooms. Members of staff will be on hand to ensure students use the correct entrance:
- Year 7 – form rooms are located on the 1st floor of Cumberland block – on the first day year 7s should go to Cumberland yard where staff will direct them into their form groups, they will be taken to their form rooms from there.
- Year 8 – form rooms are in Maths and Eamont blocks – enter school via the maths gates, students in Eamont will use the new path that links the maths and Eamont blocks.
- Year 9 – form rooms are on Cumberland ground floor – enter school via either of the Cumberland doors on the Westmorland side of school.
- Year 10 – form rooms are in the Westmorland block – enter school via reception car park, through the brown wooden gate, walk past the toilet block and enter Westmorland block via the music or central doors
- Year 11 – form rooms are in the Westmorland and ICT corridor – enter school via reception car park, through the brown wooden gate, enter the ICT corridor via the stairs near the toilet block, or enter Westmorland block via the stairs to the Westmorland Hall.
- Year 12 and 13 – form rooms are in the R60s (top corridor above LRC) – enter via the school’s main entrance, going through reception to the stairs near the staff room to access the corridor above the LRC, if accessing the sixth form study area they should go through the brown wooden gate and access the study area.
Travelling to school
Please remind your child that whilst travelling to school they must remain mindful of their own and others’ safety. Students should also avoid gathering in groups or walking to school with students who are not from the same year group, except where they are members of the same household.
Behaviour while at school
Whilst at school we expect students to follow the protocols that have been put in place and show the highest standards of behaviour. We will not tolerate behaviour that may jeopardise the safety of students and staff and any unacceptable behaviour will be dealt with appropriately.
New school ties
The new school ties will be available for students to purchase during the first week back, this will mean that parents do not have to collect them from school beforehand. Students in year 7 should come to school without a tie on the first day, other year groups should wear their old tie if they still have it.
Year 7 students will be able to purchase ties for £7.00; for students in years 8 to 10 the price is subsidised to £4.00. Please can students bring the correct money, or a cheque, in a sealed envelope labelled with their name and form. Year 11 students will continue to wear their striped or gold ties.
Students will keep the same coloured tie throughout their time at the school – they will not need to purchase a different colour each year. Please can I also remind you that jumpers are no longer allowed.
We very much look forward to seeing students again during the first week of September. Whilst there can be no doubt that UCC will feel very different, we are all part of the same community and will support each other through these challenging times. Over the first few days we will spend time ensuring that students are aware of the new expectations, we will also devote time to reflecting on the last few months.
